Overall Educational Goals

Our training program uses progressive and graded responsibility and strives to:

  • Train individuals with a comprehensive medical knowledge base that will allow them to provide the best possible health care for women in obstetrics, gynecology and primary care;
  • Provide residents with a subspecialty-derived educational breadth and depth that will allow them to be effective consultants after graduation;
  • Train providers that are able to translate their medical knowledge into effective clinical care and are able to communicate effectively with patients and their families;
  • Instill and foster a spirit of mutual respect, camaraderie and teamwork that will allow them to work as an integral part of a healthcare team;
  • Establish a habit of life-long learning and desire to assist in the education and training of medical students and residents;
  • Offer opportunities to develop and foster professional, ethical and leadership skills that can be used for during residency and in practice; and,
  • Qualify residents to become board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and to become Fellows in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.



Our goals reflect the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical education (ACGME) core competencies of Patient Care, Medical Knowledge, Practice-Based Learning and Improvement, Systems-Based Practice, Interpersonal and Communication Skills, and Professionalism.
